Book review of Utopia’s Core by J Christopher Harman
One of the first things that stands out is the repeated literary allusions to Strictures of the Human Condition by J Christopher Harman. It carries an alien threat over a utopian existence where people follow a written doctrine. While Utopia’s Core focuses on the threat of technology and creepy things eradicating humanity as it is known in the 21st century.
While reading Utopia’s Core,
the realistic battle scenes indicated Harman was well-read or experienced in
self-control during war when exsanguinating comrades lay hapless. I was
impressed. And when I reached the end of the story, I read “About the Author,”
and I knew where his experience derived, because I am also a teacher. No wonder
Harman mastered the gruesomeness and sporadic scenes. He’s lived
them. Ha!
Most of all, this is a story
of love, bravery, endurance, and loss, and philosophically, how humans always
want something better and more control of the world around them.
I recommend this science fiction.
