How to Write a Press Release
Media professionals quickly scan a press release, so it needs to be short (500 words or less) and specific.
There are several approaches to press
release styles for fiction. This style focuses on the main character.
1. The first paragraph may emphasize the main character.
Provide the title, author, and the main character’s name,
how the character is involved in the conflict and briefly describe the
character’s personality and role in the story.
2. Focus on the emotional angle of the book.
Is it a tense thriller, a blistering hot romance, or a spellbinding
mystery?
3. Identify the target audience.
Be specific about who are the ideal readers, the age group,
their go-to genre, hobby, and even logistics.
4. Share a personal quote from the author.
Again, be specific about why you wrote the book and what
readers will feel having read it.
5. Where can readers purchase the book?
Include a website or brick and mortar store. Advertise an
upcoming reading with time, date, and location.
6. Proofread.
Proofread for grammar and flow. Read it aloud and to a
friend.
7. Share a book cover.
Most print media outlets require high resolution images of 2400x3000
pixels. Online media requires 2000-3000 pixels. Instagram needs 1080x1080
pixels and Twitter needs 1200x675 pixels.
