A note on theme and literary devices concerning the “big copper momma” in The Exsanguination of the Second Society: Scholarly Historical Fiction Relating to Robeson County, North Carolina’s Tuscaroras

The major theme in The Exsanguination of the Second Society: Scholarly Historical Fiction Relating to Robeson County, North Carolina’s Tuscaroras is the struggle for 21 st Century Natives reclaiming their ancient heritage. NC Tuscarora Woman and family [Man on far left does not identify as NC Tuscarora] From the introduction, a juxtaposition of points of view is implemented when Jake Wilkes suggests “colonial white ideas” for North Carolina’s Tuscarora to survive well as a tribe in the 21 st Century. While Bruce Black has no limits to what he will do to find proof of his People’s ancestry, so they can reclaim their heritage. On the ethos level, a juxtaposition is created as Jake demonstrates his concern for Bruce’s safety more than Bruce’s desire to achieve his goals no matter the cost. Foreshadowing for the reclamation event’s atmosphere begins during a tour in the “dark underground tunnel” where slaves escaped. The atmosphere of oppression becomes the heavy wet blanket on Br

Land reparations during “riot season” for Native Americans just got real. The Supreme Court ruled this month that half of the state of Oklahoma is Indian land . This is something to consider when reading The Exsanguination of the Second Society: Scholarly Historical Fiction Relating to North Carolina’s Tuscaroras because there is a verified map that indicates a magnificent swath of land where these Natives thrived. From Hatteras' coastline to deep within Robeson County, NC, the Mighty Tuscaroras were the leading traders, the leading tribe, and the few remaining Algonquin were absorbed into this Iroquoian (Tuscarora) tribe. From the book:     “ … Look, I don’t have an apple in this pie. I’m white. That’s why I am less biased. I believe that the Croatan are the Tuscarora, for three reasons. One. Look at any of Dr. Wood’s maps in the appendix of his “Tuscarora Roots” and you’ll see Tuscarora were all over the southeast and monopolized trade and then match that up with the 1

1970's and 2020's Riot Seasons: Why NC Tuscaroras are still oppressed

During research for my historical fiction on NC Tuscaroras, I learned the power of having friends in “high” places and how it can lead to “missing BIA papers.” It was 1970’s riot season for extremists when the American Indian Movement (AIM) marched into the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) building in Washington, DC and caused 250 k in damages and stole 700 k of art, artifacts, and over 7 k pounds of reports and no one stopped them, not even the U.S. Marshalls. [FYI: A state of emergency for the town of Pembroke, NC was just declared through next Monday due to the riotous behavior between the races. There was a protest march comprised of many University of North Carolina at Pembroke students, BLM advocates, Tuscaroras, Lumbees and other races and on the opposite side of the street, a protest march formed largely comprised of locals and Lumbees. Riot Season in Robeson County, NC

Riot season is nothing new for Robeson County, North Carolina where there has been an ongoing underground civil war threatening to bring an entire faction of Natives to extinction.   A few weeks ago, the statue of Hamilton McMillan, the attorney-politician-con man, who swindled Natives out of their "recognized name," the Tuscaroras, was painted red.   Now, after a peaceful protest march, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s (UNCP) athletes who were called derogatory names during the march have begun a war on removing the university mascot, the Brave (Indian).   It is common knowledge for most that UNCP’s Old Main Hall was reconstructed after it was burned down years ago. Well, you cannot reconstruct people... The best hope now is education and that takes discipline. Rallying together a bunch of riled-up folks is no easy task and because the University has no memorialization of the NC Tuscaroras, the loss of the true history, the foundation of the Unive
